How We Work

Surrogacy at Militta

Militta agency organizes and coordinates the surrogacy program from the first consultation to the child's documents. The medical stages are performed by our licensed partner clinic "Lita" (Kyiv), and pregnancy care and delivery take place in a state maternity hospital in Kyiv. Every family receives an individual approach, medical supervision at every stage and legal protection under a notarized agreement.

We select a surrogate mother or egg donor (usually 1 to 3 months), organize full screening of candidates at the partner clinic and check their questionnaire, lifestyle and psychological readiness. The final decision on admission is made by the fertility doctor.

All medical procedures, including screening, donor stimulation and egg retrieval, preparation of the surrogate, IVF and embryo transfer, are performed by the doctors of our licensed partner clinic "Lita", with which Militta has worked since its founding in 2019. Pregnancy is monitored by the clinic and maternity hospital doctors, and the agency coordinator is available 24/7.

Legal support is provided by the agency's specialized partner lawyers. The parents and the surrogate mother sign a notarized agreement, and after the birth the intended parents are recorded on the birth certificate directly, so no adoption is needed. We help foreign parents with translations and embassy documents.

Is Militta a clinic or an agency?

Militta is a reproductive technology agency (Agency of Reproductive Assisted Medicine "Militta" LLC, company code 41552190, operating since 2017). We select surrogate mothers and egg donors, organize and coordinate the program and help with documents. All medical procedures are performed by our partner clinic "Lita" in Kyiv (MoH license No. 0711/17-M of 7 Nov 2019, ISO 9001:2015), and deliveries take place in a state maternity hospital.

Is surrogacy legal in Ukraine?

Yes. Surrogacy is permitted and regulated by Ukrainian law. The intended parents are recorded on the birth certificate immediately; no adoption procedure is required. The parents and the surrogate mother sign a notarized agreement.

Who can become a surrogate mother?

A woman aged 20 to 41 who has her own child, with a positive Rh factor and a body mass index of 28 or lower. Candidates undergo full medical screening, a psychiatric evaluation and tests for smoking and alcohol. The final decision is made by the fertility doctor. The most common reasons for rejection are a negative Rh factor, a previous caesarean section, chronic diseases and having no children of her own.

How much does a surrogacy program cost?

The exact price is calculated individually and fixed in the contract. There are guaranteed programs (repeated transfers included, the program continues until a child is born) and basic programs where repeated attempts are paid separately. Additional costs may arise for a twin pregnancy bonus or caesarean section compensation to the surrogate, treatment of complications and neonatal intensive care; these are paid by the intended parents.

How long does matching and the whole program take?

Matching and screening a surrogate mother usually takes one to three months. The whole journey from the first consultation to the birth takes about 12 to 15 months, depending on the situation.

Can the surrogate mother change her mind and keep the baby?

No. Under Ukrainian law the intended parents are the legal parents and are recorded on the birth certificate directly. The rights and obligations of all parties are set out in a notarized agreement.

What happens if the first embryo transfer does not result in pregnancy?

The program does not end. The doctor stops the supporting medication, and after the cycle recovers, preparation for the next transfer is scheduled. For a repeat (frozen) transfer you do not pay again for egg retrieval or embryo creation. In guaranteed programs repeated attempts are already included.

How often do parents receive updates?

In the first trimester 1 to 2 times a week, in the second trimester every two weeks, and in the third trimester and before delivery several times a week or daily. Your personal coordinator reports any unplanned situation immediately.

What do foreign parents need to do after the birth?

Parents receive the birth certificate naming them as the legal parents, plus the medical and legal documents. They then legalize the documents at their embassy to travel home with the child. Militta helps with translations and preparing the document package.

What are the requirements for egg donors and what is the compensation?

Age 18 to 29, at least one healthy child of her own and full screening as required by law. Compensation is UAH 55,000 to 70,000 per cycle depending on the number of eggs retrieved and is fixed in the contract. A donor may take part no more than 6 times in her life, with a break of 2 to 3 months between programs.

Is participation confidential?

Yes. We do not disclose information about parents, surrogate mothers or donors to third parties.
