A donor may take part no more than 6 times, with a 2 to 3 month break between programs.

Risks every donor should know about
Egg donation is a medical procedure, and we believe in being honest about its risks. Under strict medical supervision the probability of serious complications is below 1%. The fertility doctor of our partner clinic explains the possible side effects at an in-person consultation, and the anesthesiologist discusses the retrieval itself before the procedure.
- Hormonal stimulation (10 to 14 days of injections). The main specific risk is ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome: bloating, pain, nausea; in severe cases (about 1% of cycles) hospitalization is required. Mood swings, headache, swelling and local allergic reactions are possible.
- Egg retrieval. Performed transvaginally with a thin needle under ultrasound guidance and short intravenous anesthesia. Rare complications: bleeding, pelvic infection (below 1%, antibiotics are prescribed for prevention), ovarian torsion, which is why sports and sudden exertion are prohibited during the program.
- Unplanned pregnancy. Fertility is extremely high during stimulation, so sexual abstinence as advised by the doctor is mandatory.
- Psychological aspect. Some women feel anxiety knowing that their genetic material will be used for a child in another family without further contact.
Recovery after retrieval
2 to 3 hours of observation in the ward, and you can go home the same day. Mild cramping and light spotting are normal. Full recovery takes 5 to 7 days: no physical exertion, no hot baths or saunas, no sexual contact, and plenty of water. Repeat participation is possible after 2 to 3 full cycles, and no more than 6 times in a lifetime.
